Prototype in development · Toronto

An AI companion that folds into a ball and stands up to help.

Emo fits in a bag. At home, its legs, neck and arms unfold from inside its round head, so it can roam on its own and do tasks with its arms.

Scroll to watch it unfold

01 / 04

The ball

27 cm across, with its own 65 Wh battery. The legs, neck and arms are folded away inside, so it fits in a bag or sits on a table.

02 / 04

Legs

Four petals under the head swing down into legs and stand Emo up on four omni wheels.

03 / 04

Neck

Three nested tubes telescope out of the head and lift it 30 cm. A self-locking lead screw holds the height with the power off.

04 / 04

Arms

Each shoulder hatch swings open, then the arm unfolds at the shoulder, elbow and wrist. Standing, Emo is 60 cm tall.

Senses

Six senses

Emo can notice when you're upset or sad and soothe you through six senses.

1 / 6

Sight

A depth camera behind the face reads your expression, so Emo can notice when you're upset or sad. Distance sensors in the waist keep it from bumping into things as it roams.

2 / 6

Sound

Four microphones hear your voice and its tone. Emo can also play calming sounds and make the sound of any creature, living or extinct.

3 / 6

Smell

A gas sensor behind the vent at the back of the head smells the air and warns you about burning or spoiled food.

4 / 6

Speech

A speaker below the screen lets Emo talk with you, answer your questions and teach a lesson to anyone of any age.

5 / 6

Touch

A soft pad on the back reads your pulse and feels a hug. A sensor in each hand feels how firmly it holds.

6 / 6

Temperature

Emo reads your skin temperature, and the back pad and palms warm to 38 °C. A 40 °C cut-off switch on each heater is the hardware limit.

03 / Design

Designed down to the millimetre, before the first print.

Complete CAD of all 28 custom parts, with assembly and part drawings and a bill of materials. Every part was checked for collisions in both forms and along the whole transformation.

  2. November 2026

    Printing the first prototype

The first parts are being 3D printed in Toronto this month.

  3. Next

    Assembly and first tests
